The Paw Print

Joseph Crump, News/Copy Editor

Joe is a senior at Plainfield South who currently holds the title for News Editor on South’s student newspaper The Paw Print. Instead of jumping on the bandwagon of taking AP classes, Crump chose to take up his father’s suggestion of giving Journalism a chance his junior year.

“I’ve always liked writing and my dad actually used to be a journalist, so I took his advice and I’m really glad I did,” Crump said.

Although Crump has many accomplishments in journalism, he was very ecstatic when he was to write his first piece. Crump had the title of the first year writer at the time but his story ran front page. The story discussed the topic of the switch from Aramark to the new food company supplying the school lunch, according to Crump.

Crump expressed his love for any form of politics whether it’s reading or writing.

“World politics are always messy, and interesting, and ever-changing,” Crump said.

On the other hand, has an apparent dislike for opinions expressed in journalism. Some of his likes in writing include interviewing and meeting new people, also being the first to reveal a story. His biggest dislike is remaining objective.

“He’s very passionate about the paper, and he wants everyone to care about it as much as he does,” said Maddy Wheaton.

“Oh, every moment is great in Journalism,” Crump said. He expressed many positive aspects to the class.

“Don’t really think of it as work, think of it as something you like to do,” Crump said.

He is now planning to major in Journalism after high school and is interested in continuing to write for a paper in college. It is undecided where he will attend next fall.
