May 11, 2016
On Saturday April 23 the journalism students competed in the IHSA journalism sectionals at Naperville Central High School. As a team the Cougars finished six out of 12 places, and they placed in 12 out of 16 individual categories. Two seniors, Brandon Smith and Alyssa Pometta, qualified for state in the Yearbook Theme Development category.
“I was absolutely flabbergasted by how well I worked with my partner to take second place at sectionals,” senior staff writer Brandon Smith said.
Among the student places include Matt Hehl in sixth place for Ad Design, Mitch Schoener in 4th place for Broadcast News, Kaitlyn Shreffler in 6th place for Copy Editing, Joe Crump in 6th place for Editorial Writing, Kaitlin Darche in 5th place for Info Graphics, Maddy Wheaton in 5th place for Newspaper Design and in 6th place for Yearbook Layout, Peyton Allen in 5th place for Review Writing, Ryan Murray in 4th place in Yearbook Caption Writing and in 6th place in Yearbook Copy Writing.
Alyssa Pometta, senior staff writer, is also shocked that she qualified due to the fact that she is not in yearbook.
