Q&A with Associate Principal Kristi Boe

James Dralle, Staff Writer

Q:What did you do before becoming an assistant principal?

A: I was a teacher for ten years. I taught regular and AP government for ten years. I was a counselor for two years, and then moved into this position.

Q:What drove you to be a teacher?

A: Well, growing up I always wanted to make a difference. My parents had jobs growing up that they didn’t really like. That made want to find a career I really wanted to do. I really like what I do. It’s hard, but I really like it.

Q:What’s your job as assistance principal?

A: I’m in charge of scheduling. I’m also in charge of counselors; it’s almost like a catch all. If kids are hospitalized, or kids get a concussion, it’s really a problem solving job. But I’m also in charge of concrete things, such as testing we’re doing this week and evaluating people. There’s not one day that’s the same.

Q:Is it fun working with the other counselors?

A: They really, really care about their job. They are strong advocates for their students. I would argue that our counselors are some of the hardest working people in this building. Even if we don’t see eye to eye, everybody always has their best interest of kids in mind.

Q:Do you enjoy working with other students?

A: I really like high school students. I had a great high school experience which really drove me to be a high school teacher. I used to always tell my students you’ll only do this once, because when you leave here you’ll be an adult, and sometimes it’s always not that great to be an adult.

Q:What is your favorite MLB team?

A: I honestly am a Chicago Sports fan. I grew up on the South Side so I am a Sox fan by location, but I am so happy for the Cubs and want to see them do well.
