South takes on Project Linus
December 5, 2017
Project Linus has given a sense of hope and security to children affected by mental illnesses.
The goal of this charitable foundation is to deliver self-made, fleece blankets to multiple foster homes across the Chicagoland area.
“Our blankets were dropped off at the Will County drop-off spot, Robert’s Sewing in Crest Hill,” wellness teacher Shantel Eagan said. “They will then be distributed by volunteers to children in the Grand Valley school district.”
Members of the Plainfield South Link Crew (PSLC) created the blankets during school on Friday, November 17.
“I think working together on projects such as this really makes PSLC feel more like a family,” Eagan said. “Each individual receives a sense of happiness through this shared compassion.”
This sense of “shared compassion” isn’t only intended to be felt through the members of PSLC, but followed through to make a connection with the children.
“I think making these blankets will give comfort to these kids in a time when they need it,” junior Lexi Jones said. “I want them to know that they are loved and always in our thoughts.”
This was the first year Plainfield South launched Project Linus.
“This will become an annual event for PSLC,” Eagan said. “Each year will we aim to create even more blankets!”
