The German club went on a field trip to The Kris Kindle Market in Chicago on Nov. 28. According to the German club, the German trip is a great way to learn German culture and learn a little bit of the language. Sixteen countries speak it with six having it as their main language.
The Market has been said to be authentic.
“Overall, it’s highly accurate in terms of similarity to a European historical mart,” Herr Harring said, who is the German teacher and sponsor. The market is highly recommended by students and former students who have gone more than once over the years.
“I recommend the experience for everyone whether or not they are in German education,” said Sam Fratini, a former student and German club member.
“This year will make it three times,” said Zach Throson, a current member of the German club.
People love the trip so much that they keep going even after they graduate. A lot of students love going each year, and this year was a little bit different then most because they went on a weekday instead of a weekend and the students seemed to like it.
“Thing is with the weekend there’s a lot more time but on the week there is less time but you can do anything you want you can go to any stall and say hey I see that stall it looks nice it looks fun and without any traffic it’s completely empty I think do prefer the week even though it’s a little crunch,” said Zach Thorson.
A cool thing about the German field trip is that it’s not just limited to people in German clubs or people in German class. Anyone can go. Students recommend going with a friend that is in the class or club so they can maybe explain some stuff to you, but it’s not necessary.
According to club members, a lot of people went this year and it was really fun because they didn’t have to wait in line and have to shuffle around the market. They were able to walk around and do anything, saying it was really nice to be able to actually explore the market this time
