On Jan. 17, Plainfield South hosted Exploration Night in the gymnasium and cafeteria. Exploration Night is an after-school opportunity for the incoming freshmen from Aux Sable and Drauden Point Middle Schools to come into South and check out the opportunities in clubs, athletics, and elective classes with their parents. Many electives like Art, Choir, Band, Fashion, and languages, have been showcased. There are many opportunities for students to find classes and clubs that suit their interests.
Clubs offered showcases of what they do in each club. Esports had students playing video games. The chess club had some tables with chess boards ready to play. There were even some students to play along with. The Stem Club had a showcase of bridges that students had made. Incoming freshmen had the chance to try and break the bridges, but none of them had broken.
The school’s sports teams were showing off their sports as well. Athletes were there with coaches to talk to the incoming freshmen who were interested in joining during the 2024/2025 seasons. Cheer and dance had some small performances of music. The cheer was even showing off their new uniforms. Girls Track and Field and Cross Country had a backdrop with hand-held South logos and a track jersey on display for incoming freshmen to take photos with.
The Elective classes even had stuff on display. The choir booth had the cast of Madrigals singing some songs from the performance, with some cast even in costume. The art booth had all types of art on display from digital photos and graphics, to 3D sculptures. There was even an AP 3D student throwing pottery.
Exploration night is most importantly a night where incoming freshmen get to find where they fit in.
