Finals will take place the last three days of the school year for all high school students, and while students finalize their semester grades leading up to the final exam
and prepare to study, exams are being printed or processed online by the staff members who administer them.
Some of the school’s finals are being transferred to Mastery Manager and other plat-forms for online testing.
“We are using less paper, so there’s an environmental benefit. From a school’s standpoint and budget standpoint, you spend so much money on paper. It’s the way of the world now, too. [students’ lives] are becoming more digital [To prepare them for the future],” said William Bicker, Associate Principal.
Bicker also states that the same protocols for online testing will be the same like any other tests. The platforms used for digital finals like Mastery Manager, Testnav, Blue Book, and more have a feature to make sure students can’t minimize the test or open any web browser to cheat on the final.
Finals can cause anxiety among certain students, with some struggling to find good studying resources to help prepare for finals.
To prepare students finals, sophomore Noah Garbers advises what to do the night before final exams.
“Getting a good night’s sleep, and eating a good breakfast, and making sure I am on top of my questions [is some-
thing I do],” said Garbers.
Garbers mentioned he’s worried that he will just rush through the final exams. Pacing exams is essential for students because it can allow time to think about the question and choose the best educated guess. F i n d i n g good studying habits that work well for students is essential to prepare for finals.
Haylee Wallace, sophomore, uses websites like Quizlet to study and other online tools to help her memorize or remember information for the finals. The study guides that teachers assign to students are also a major help to her.
A stressor for Wallace for finals is making sure she studies enough so she can retain the information that is needed for her finals, and her way of coping with the stress is simple for her.
“Just shoving it aside and getting the work done [powering it through],” said Wallace.
Bicker states the school is currently in talks about the purpose of finals and how they are administered. In the up- coming years, there may be major changes to finals.
