Q: How do you feel about playing your last golf season with South?
A: I’m sad. I really love the team. I’m sad to leave, but I’m also excited to grow into new opportunities. [There are] a bunch of emotions, you know?
Q: Why play golf over other sports?
A: I like the mental challenge. I like being able to go out there and compete with myself. I feel like I’m always trying to beat a threshold, and I really like that challenge.
Q: What is something your coach has said that has stuck with you?
A: Be confident. [It’s about] being confident in everything that you do. It’s such a huge thing because without confidence, there’s nowhere to go.
Q: What do you normally like to do after a game?
A: The three things I love to do are eat dinner, chat with my family for a little while, and then sit down and do homework — so four things.
Q: What sort of challenges have you had this season?
A: A lot. The one thing with golf is that there are many ups and downs. You can get so high, and you can get so low. The one thing that I have learned over the years is just to understand that one day doesn’t define you. [That has] been a huge challenge — just to be able to zone my mind back into understanding that one day is not going to define my golfing ability.
Q: Who’s someone you’re glad to have on your team and why?
A: Jonah Powell. Jonah has been a cornerstone of the ability and love for the game. Jonah and I play a lot of golf together, and he’s just been somebody that, if I need help or if he needs help, we can piggyback off each other. It’s been such a fantastic ride over the last four years.
Q: What has been your favorite part of the season?
A: I would say just being with the team and competing, I love competing. Playing in our nine-hole matches where I get to play Jonah, or Limmie, or any of the guys on the team-that’s such a huge thing for me. I love being able to grow and express my ideas to my other players, and vice versa; they give me advice, and we just learn and grow off each other. That is my favorite part of every season.
