Caroline Jankowski is a high achieving senior scholar who is involved in multiple extracurricular activities, such as french club, student council, the fall play, and PSLC. She also participates in the morning announcements.
Jankowski’s most prominent pastime is tennis.
“Right now, tennis is my biggest thing. I play number one doubles on the varsity team, so that’s a big part of my life. I’m also team captain, so that’s exciting. I love it so much!” Jankowski said.
Her motivation for tennis sparked when she wanted to join a sport that both her and her friend could play, both eager to join a friendly sport.
“I was like ‘Hey, let’s just do badminton together, it’s our freshman year’. And then we ended up becoming partners for all four of our years, which is awesome,” Jankowski said.
Tom Perrin, Jankowski’s tennis coach, describes Jankowski as someone with “a wonderful, positive spirit,” who is always setting an example for her teammates. Perrin notes that Jankowski puts one hundred percent into everything that she’s committed to, and goes to further lengths, like staying after practice to put in more training.
“When I see someone who cares as much as Caroline does and works as hard as she does, it makes me want to do the best job that I can to help her and the other players achieve their goals,” Perrin said.
Margie Kriz, main office secretary who works closely with Jankowski during the morning announcements, comments that Jankowski works hard, takes everything that she does seriously, and is always eager to help others.
“She’s responsible. She’s very detail oriented. She practices, she makes sure that she does it right, and she does it with a lot of enthusiasm, which is nice,” Kriz said.
Jankoski’s involvement at South is unblemished, provoked by her personal moral to “live by [trying] new things” and an aspiration to meet new people through different activities.
“I’ve met so many awesome friends through the things [that] I’ve tried. I did not think I would be playing tennis in my high school career and so I did it, and I met my best friends through it,” Jankowski said.
Senior Raine Flores also vouches for Jankowski’s bright character, explaining how she’s the kind of friend that you can rely on for help, no complaints necessary. Flores admires Jankowski’s hardworking attitude and creative personality because “she comes up with the best ideas,”.
“She’ll automatically take the leadership role when you need it, and people listen to her, she’s just fun to be around,” Flores said.
Jankowski enjoys taking opportunities, and believes in taking each one that comes her way especially since it’s her last year at South.
Jankowski aims to attend a college or university after high school, perhaps even continuing her love for tennis.
“I’m really interested in Washington University right now. I’m planning on [majoring] in [a career] in psychology because I’m very influenced in helping others,” Jankoski said.
She strives to take on the opportunities that college will present to her, and she’ll find out next January where she’ll begin her next chapter.
