The Plainfield School District 202 recently filled the open School Board seat with 26 year district resident Dave Koch. The seat became available when previous member William Dargan resigned his spot after accepting a new position in Florida. Dave Koch will finish Dargan’s term until 2017.

Koch will be involved in many day to day operations of the Board as well as two board meetings and one committee meeting per month, according to Director of Communication Tom Hernandez.

Each member of the board is assigned a different committee based on his or her interests or experiences. One duty of a Board member includes attending many public events such as graduation.

“It’s all valuable. It’s important to remember that the Board hires administrators to conduct daily operations, so Board members don’t need to be “experts” on anything,” Hernandez said.

All of the applicants must be registered voters over the age of 18 and have been a resident of Illinois as well as the district for at least year.

“It is more important that the Board members always be focused on doing what’s best for students and using the community’s resources efficiently,” Hernandez said.
