Meet the New College and Career Counselor
September 24, 2015
Going into her fifth year as a counselor at South, Nicole Ursetta has worked with many students throughout her life.
“The past four years I have been working with the juniors as the junior group guidance counselor, and I really enjoyed that part of the job,” said Ursetta. This year, however, she will mainly being focusing on the seniors as well as working in the College and Career Center (CCC).
“When this position opened up, I knew I was a good fit because I would be able to continue working with all the students that I had just worked with as juniors. I would be able to really help students really focus on what they want to do after high school and how they can get there,” said Ursetta.
This being her first year in charge of the CCC, Ursetta does not plan to change much right away. She said hopefully by second semester she bring some new additions into the room for seniors.
“Later in the year I hope to bring more of the career aspect back into the College and Career center and opened up more opportunities for students to come visit with people from different careers and things along that line, not just have college reps coming down,” said Ursetta.
No matter what seniors decide to do after high school, Ursetta wants to be there to make sure everyone has a plan. That is one of biggest reasons why the CCC is available to students.
“I really hope that the students really utilize the resources that are here and that they all have a concrete plan before they leave here,” said Ursetta.
The CCC is open Monday-Thursday during all lunch periods for seniors to come visits. There are many college reps visiting, scholarship opportunities, as well as adults to answer questions students many have about their future.
“I am really excited about the new position, and I hope to see every senior down there at some point so I can assist with their plans,” said Ursetta.
