Teachers honored by students
October 7, 2015
For the past year at south, teachers have been awarded with a giant cougar each week. As a way to recognize outstanding leadership. This “teacher of the week” tradition has continued this 2015-15 school year.
History teacher Derek Christensen was a winner earlier this year.
“I was very honored since you know it was voted on by the students and the fact that they thought that highly of me was really humbling,” Christensen said. He was presented the giant cougar during his third hour class, by Mr. Miller’s class.
The award was then voted on by Christensen’s class, and was passed on to Sandy Balontine.
“All of my class voted for Sandy the lunch lady. Since lunch periods start 4th hour, my third hour and I went down to the lunchroom at the end of the hour with the giant cougar and presented it to Sandy. She was very surprised and very thankful,” Christensen said.
Christensen also thinks that the Cougar of the week tradition is truly awesome.
