Souths badminton team wants to build off their two win conference season last year. With a new head coach and prepared players, this goal is definitely within reach.
“Our immediate goal is to constantly improve as individuals and as a team. I know a lot of our girls trained in the off season so I hope their work pays off with an increase in individual wins. I am also aiming for a top three finish in conference,” head coach Hannah Christie said.
“I plan on placing well in conference with my team,” senior Melissa Jordan said.
According to the girls, they have been putting in work. Jordan says the players on the team are always positive with each other, and that they all push each other to be the best.
In badminton there is no referees, so the players referee their own games, which is why Christie wants to instill sportsmanship in her players by making them responsible for their actions.
“It is important to have character and integrity and treat each opponent with dignity and respect while representing our school,” Christie said.
The Cougars took second in the first tournament and third in the second on March 18. They open up conference play on March 27 against Romeoville High School.
