Review of The Hunger Games: Mocking Jay Part Two

Director Francis Lawrence Mockingjay Part 2 followed Suzanne Collin’s plot seemlessly. It truly tributes the book.
The beginning of the movie continues where it left off in Mockingjay Part 1. Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) is shown with bruises across her neck due to the attack from her ally, Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson). She comes back with a fiercer outlook on the rebellion against the capitol than ever before. She escapes from District 13 hoping to help the rebels at the front lines storm the capitol. Then, she is forced to shoot propaganda with a “dream team” consisting of her lifelong friend Gale Hawthorne (Liam Hemsworth), and fellow tribune Finnick Odair (Sam Claflin), under President Coin’s (Leader of District 13, Julianne Moore) orders. Instead, it turns into pursuing her plot to assassinate President Snow.
Katniss faces many challenges including the tortured mental stability of Peeta Mellark, and maneuvering around pods and traps the capitol typically uses in the hunger games, to reach Snow’s mansion.
The acting was phenomenal because the actresses and actors expressed the character’s emotions in a way that seemed real. Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson especially fulfilled their roles to the max, mirroring emotions that were seen in the book. The worst part was how some of the relationships with the main characters were a little distant, such as Katniss’s connection with her sister Prim Everdeen (Willow Shields); the movie could have expanded more on the character buildup though.
Some of the best special effects were in the scenes that showed what the pods could do, which plays pivotal roles in the plot. The costuming and makeup was very fascinating. As a whole the production was amazing, and I recommend it to teens and up.
