The 2016 Boys golf team is 2-6 in conference play. After winning the first two games in conference, the Cougars dropped the last six conference games. They hope to get back on track.
“A lot of our guys are getting better, and that’s the important part,” coach Tim Boe said.
Among those getting better are junior Parker Govern, who has the lowest average on the team, and senior Jake Crowl, who has the second lowest. As a sophomore last year, Govern made it to the sectional part of the state series. This year he has had the lowest score in 5 tournaments.
“It was a little surprising making it into sectionals last year, but it was always a goal of mine that I didn’t always except to achieve as a sophomore, but I learned a lot from the experience.” Govern said.
There are three seniors on team: Justin Cygan, Jake Crowl, Troy Tidaback.
“Playing with such a young team has been a little rough (there are a lot of freshman and sophomores on varsity)but it has given us a lot of opportunities to help improve the younger players on the varsity level,” Cygan said.
The team ended up finishing in seventh place at conference. Both Cygan and Govern would like the team do well at regionals.
