Girls tennis come together

The tennis team is breaking records this year. The reason? Maybe that they have eight seniors and five of them start: Kayla Fraley, Kelsey Calasanz, Cynthia Gonzalez, Marissa Kmtty, Syra Sada.

“This year playing with so many seniors was a different perspective due to the fact that we only had three seniors last year, but eight seniors in our tennis program all bring a strong aspect to the team that help in every way,” senior Syra Sada said.

“It is nice to see this many seniors in the program,” head coach Leah Carter said.

The team is off to a 3-2 start including wins over Bolingbrook, Romeoville, Plainfield Central and Joliet West. They are 3-0 in conference. The win against Joliet West was the first time that the team won against them since Carter has coached at South.

The 3-0 start in conference play is also the best start that South has ever had.

Both Fraley and Sada stated that the team is really coming together and that they are like one big family, and that everyone has each other’s backs on the team.

“There is a lot of talent on the tennis team this year,” senior Kayla Fraley said.

“My favorite part about the tennis is coming together as a team to cheer one another on during our matches. It makes me feel important when I know I have my whole team backing me up and supporting me,” Fraley said.

The Cougars have eight more matches and three more tournaments until the SPC tournament begins on October 7 .
