Q&A with Humanities division chair Stephanie Stashak

Emily Sherrill, Staff Writer

Q: How long have you been working at South?
A: Since the building opened in 2001.
Q: As the division chair, what are some of your responsibilities?
Providing resources for teachers and building their core schedule and developing the curriculum.
Q: What’s the best part of your job?
A: There’s all kinds of good parts of my job. I probably enjoy the curriculum and the innovation of the teachers the most besides working with our students.
Q: What are some challenging aspects of your job?
A: I think the job is always challenging because we are ever-changing, and so trying to stay progressive and trying to develop lessons plans and skills and relevant daily activities is tough for everybody. So anytime that we can meet that challenge is great but it’s challenging every day.
Q: If you could live in any fictional world, where would you live and why?
Harry Potter, no doubt about it. Hands down, without a doubt. Gryffindor all the way.
Q: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received?
A: There was a principal in my first couple years of teaching, completely different state, who said, “Rules without relationship breeds rebellion.” It seems to be true for everybody, it doesn’t matter the age. It just sticks with me.
