Paw Print United: Syria

During the ongoing civil war in Syria, the government unleashed a chemical attack. Eighty civilian lives have been taken and over 300 innocent children and civilians were injured. Chemical warfare is not a common problem among Syria, but in 2013 government forces carried out a different chemical attack, killing over 1,429 people. It was estimated that at least 426 of those casualties were children.

While America doesn’t need to start war with Syria, we must take some form of military action to prevent these killings, whether it’s using strategic airstrikes, establishing no fly zones, or even creating safe zones throughout Syria.

Creating no fly zones can protect heavily populated civilian areas throughout Syria. No fly zones eliminate the threat of any aircraft carrying out another atrocious airstrike or barrel bomb attack towards the civilians. It will add emphasis to show that we are concerned about Syrian civilian safety.

Safe zones established in areas such as Aleppo and Damascus, two of the most dangerous cities in the middle-east, can benefit the refugees. The safe zones can give the people what they need: an abundance of food, medicines, and an overall safe environment for the refugees fleeing the conflict.

Strategic airstrikes targeted at the people committing harm towards innocent civilians will show that we care about the safety of civilians. Though causing airstrikes won’t cause us to win the war, it’ll heavily benefit our attempt to getting rid of key enemies and players of the Syrian conflict.

Strategic airstrikes are also very precise and on target. Out of the 59 we sent, 58 of them hit.

War would be a terrible move with Syria. Economically and resource wise, there is nothing in Syria for us to gain. It would be a waste of money, and we’d be risking the lives of our armed forces. It is better if we stride to improve the situation with action, not war.

The Syrian conflict should be taken care of, or at least attempted to. At the end of the day, there are countless Syrian women and children being killed every day from their own government. Our government has been the bystander for too long. It’s time to act for the safety for Syria.
