When JB Pritzker gave the order to shut down schools until the end of March due to COVID-19, Plainfield South students quickly wondered how the shut down might affect this year’s prom. After all, prom ticket sales were just around the corner, and many students already purchased their dresses and accessories, including some from stores with a no return policy.

English teacher and student council adviser Shanna Gardner sat down with principal Bob Yanello on Monday, March 16, to work out a plan to reschedule Prom 2020. They managed to reschedule the event, moving the original date, Friday, April 17, to Thursday, May 14. Prom will be held at the original venue, Bobak’s Signature Events, in Woodridge from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Gardner said that although this is not an official weekend date, the seniors do not have school the following day. However, Gardner notes if the May 14 date gets cancelled again, South’s prom will most likely not be rescheduled.
