Opening its doors on Feb. 27, 2026, Slawburger brings a fresh (and slightly messy) twist to Plainfield’s burger scene. Though it’s not perfect, it’s definitely worth your appetite.
Let’s start with the basics: a meal totaling $23.78 included the classic slaw burger, fries, and banana pudding. For what’s essentially a standard combo, that price feels a bit absurd. Still, the food mostly delivers where it counts.
The burger itself is the highlight. A juicy smash patty layered with onion, pickle, lettuce, cheese, and their signature slaw sauce creates a balanced bite every time. It’s not revolutionary, but it’s reliably good. It’s unfortunate how it’s just a little overpriced for its size.
Additionally, thanks to employee Zubair, I found out the most notable thing that sets Slawburger apart. “This is Zabiha Halal, it’s actually hand-cut meat, so that’s one thing I would prefer. We also use Angus beef, [and] that’s why this is really good,” said Zubair. This isn’t only inclusive, it also proves to be effective, as the slaw burger is one of the best burgers I’ve had in a while. I’ll have to go back for Zubair’s favorite thing on the menu, the slawfather.
The fries, however, steal the spotlight. When they’re on point, they’re really on point. They presented a well-seasoned and plentiful serving, encapsulating the taste buds of those who delve into the potato. That being said, inconsistency is still noticeable with some fries arriving too hot, too cold, or unevenly seasoned.
Dessert keeps things simple. The banana pudding is served cold and tastes exactly how you’d expect, but again, the portion size doesn’t quite justify the price. Regardless, you can’t go wrong with banana pudding. Service is impressively fast at a whopping 2 minutes and 46 seconds, though the experience feels minimal. With no real waitstaff and only a silent TV for entertainment, the atmosphere can feel a bit flat. This is unfortunate because the space itself is inviting with clean bathrooms, thoughtful lighting, and eye-catching wall art. Though slightly sticky floors suggest room for improvement.
Before concluding, I asked a customer about their experience with their meal, in which they said, “I thought it was really good. The food was really good, the burger is well-made [and] juicy. All the toppings were good [too].” They even emphasized that they’d come back. After one visit, the verdict lands at a solid 4.2/5 stars. Slawburger may not reinvent the burger, but it’s off to a very promising start— just maybe bring a few extra dollars.
