This past month, the L-TAP (Leadership through Action and Purpose) carried out a black history month project. The group looked for 12 to 24 students to write 2-4 sentences about an African American individuals who made an impact on their life, and the best statements were read aloud over the announcements over the past month.
L-TAP is a student-led group that organizes student events around the school and the community. The group is sponsored by Catalyst director Andre. One difference is that the group does not select as many kids. L-TAP is also fully run by the student’s.
“I don’t want to take credit for a lot of the stuff that’s done because I don’t really do a lot of the work. The work I do is to coach them and to push them to be better leaders,” Bouey said.
Bouey created L-TAP at the beginning of the year, but he use to run a similar group called TLG, which he was the sponsor of for four years.
“I believe I have a passion for teaching kids how to become successful leaders here in the community. I think that the more responsible and productive leaders we have, the better opportunities we have to create change, positive change, in our own community and within our school,” B0uey said.
Junior Shannon Cavins, president of the group, joined L-TAP because she wanted to be in a leadership group and thought it sounded like a great group to join. Cavins has been part of the group since October when the interview process started.
There are many different facets of the group.

“We have many committees throughout our group like The Food Pantry Committee, Leadership Committee, and the Student Affairs Committee. As a group our first project was Our Recruit Day on February 5, 2015,” Cavins said.
