South’s students gathered together for the away football game against Plainfield East on September 11; they were able to find ways to commemorate the 2,977 lives lost 14 years ago.

Co-leader of Blue Crew, Gabe Wair, spoke on what the fans were planning to do that Friday from the stands.

“Us, the members of blue crew are going to wear red, white, and blue as the theme for Friday to show our condolences for the ones who lost their lives,” said Wair.

Even though it was an away game, South’s students still showed pride in their school and country as they recognized the impact of September 11th had on the nation.

“I believe it has a huge importance and definitely brings us all together,” senior varsity football player Mitchell Ganassin said.

Home football game announcer Bryant Williams said game play wasn’t affected.

“I think that was earlier in the years immediately after 9/11 probably had some affect, I think now it is more or less a time to commemorate what happened that day before the game. It seems that everyone moves on and it doesn’t affect the game that much,” Williams said.

It did end in a win for South. The final score for varsity was 23-0.
