The boys’ wrestling team scoots into their new season with early competition at the Barrington Moore/Prettyman Invite on Friday, Nov. 27 and Saturday, Nov. 28. after an eventful off-season.
“We had thirty wrestlers receive a total of six-hundred off-season matches, as well as over thirty went to the NCC wrestling camp. We had tons of commitment over our off-season overall,” said head coach Jason Acevedo. According to Acevedo, the team will try to hold onto the title as the varsity conference champions for the third year in a row.
“As a team we would also like to win regionals and have eight or more sectional qualifiers, along with three or more state qualifiers. These would tie or break our school records. I just want all of our wrestlers to get better this year in terms of technique, as well as to have fun,” said Acevedo.
In the SPC conference alone, the varsity wrestling squad will be up against some tough matchups from Minooka, Plainfield East, Oswego and Plainfield North.
“Conference play will be a wild ride for us with all of the very competitive teams,” said Acevedo.
The Cougars open up their season against Plainfield East on Dec. 3, along with Bradley and Yorkville, two regional opponents.
“The team is looking forward to the Dvorack and Granite City tournaments over the Christmas holiday,” said Acevedo.
