Q and A with Herr Harring

Q: How did watching Star Wars every year become a trend in German club?

Well I ask German Club every year what movies they want to watch, and then we vote on which ones I find that are affordable. Star Wars won a few years ago. So, I bought the box set in German, and we watched episodes four five and six, one a year, for the last three years.

Q: Have you ever incorporated any Star Wars into the curriculum of German Class?

A long time ago I used to have a poster of Yoda hanging up on the wall to remind students to think of their word order when they speak German. However, I don’t know where that poster is right now.

Q: Have you ever used it in a lesson?

I’ve referenced it, and I’ve joked about the fact that a friend of mine in Austria used to accuse me of speaking “Yoda Deutsch” if I were to mess up my word order.

Q: Would you think it’s a good idea to see the new Star wars in theaters with the German Club?

Since it’s not going to be offered with subtitles any time soon, I’m going to say we can’t really do that as a school event. But, if German students want to get together and go watch it together, they should go for it.

Q: Are you yourself a big fan of Star Wars?

I do enjoy Star Wars.
