Paws
It is a crisp October’s afternoon. The leaves are falling and sidewalks are covered by an array of colors. You decide to take a walk to soak in the fall air, and look in the distance. A house already has Christmas lights set up and wreaths displayed on their house.
Over the years it has become increasingly common for people to decorate in advance for a distant holiday, sometimes before the season arrives. Why not just wait a few more weeks until the holiday is just a month away?
Do yourself and everyone else in your neighborhood a favor: build up some patience. It won’t kill you. People in your neighborhood don’t want to see Beware! signs when breaking a sweat after only taking the trash out. No one wants to see a Christmas tree when grabbing a handful of Hershey’s and Skittles. An Easter egg hunt in the midst of a harsh winter isn’t a good look either.
Trends and seasonal items make this concept more popular. For example, Starbucks’ Pumpkin Spice Latte allows consumers to celebrate the fall season during the dog days of summer. The introduction of decorations in department and grocery stores for certain holidays also makes this idea more accepted. People shopping for a Thanksgiving turkey can’t even get through the entrance of the store they are shopping in before accidentally walking under a mistletoe.
It is understandable to be excited for an upcoming holiday or to exhibit love for festivities. However, it is foolish to set up and display decorations on your garage or front door when the flaunted holiday is faraway.
Claws
Decorating for the holidays is always something we all look forward to every year. Getting out our decorations, getting together with the family, and just having fun is a feeling many enjoy and crave. When the leaves start falling from trees, changing color, or when that chilly breeze finally hits, we know it’s time for the endless Halloween/fall and winter decorations.
Many start decorating in early August. Some wait until September, and some simply stay on schedule, decorating when the month of said holiday has arrived. Either way, decorating is always nice, and is an activity many can enjoy doing and partaking in.
Decorating really should be based on when one deems it appropriate to. At the end of the day it’s all about the holiday spirit. One’s home is ultimately theirs, and how they wish for it to be decorated or set up is up to them. There is no time limit or restriction as to when people should or shouldn’t decorate. Ultimately, people can do as they please, and holidays should be more about feelings and enjoyment rather than rules.
There is never a more perfect time to fall into the holiday spirit than when we see fit. People should really decorate when they want to, not when others claim they should. The holidays all have different effects based on a multitude of factors so we shouldn’t constrict when people wish to celebrate.
