From the start, Zootopia 2 shows viewers how differences don’t make someone better than the other. The movie has been anticipated by many wanting to know what new journey the duo will wrap themselves in now.
Minor spoilers ahead.
Zootopia 2, directed by Jared Bush and Byron Howard, shows a touching story about an animated action-adventure buddy-cop comedy. The iconic loveable characters Nick Wilde and Judy Hopps from Zootopia 1 follows a new story about a snake (Gary) fearing his family will never be able to go home after the Lynx’s threaten to steal his family’s district (Reptile Ravine) and wanting to expand to take over it fully.
In Zootopia 2 the directors decided to add new characters to the movie, Gary De’Snake, Nibbles Maplestick, Robert Furwin and the Lynxley family. During the previews many came with the impression that Gary De’Snake was going to be the traditional “annoying tag along”, but was staggered by the truth. I found him to be rather entertaining, reluctant from the trailers. The Lynxley family almost slips away from the shadows, but swiftly gets shined in the light before they can get away.
The directors decided to switch Editing softwares from Zootopia 1 being multiple softwares and switching to Pixar’s Presto. Many of the scenes had bright colors and intense music, like when Gary was scanning the book to show the truth. I felt like the bright colors of Gary’s eyes and the anticipating music truly brought it all together to feel in the moment of anticipation. Some of the scenes did feel rushed, like they needed more time to really sink in, but it made sense for the moments when they were trying to find each other.
Zootopia 2 was a great sequel and truly showed the life beyond the city Judy dreamed of and the character’s growth. The impact the story had on the characters really made us feel for them and understand.
