Superhero and action director James Gunn captures Superman in his battle with accepting his kryptonian heritage while balancing his human life as Clark Kent. This film quickly became a personal favorite.
When Superman faces a new metahuman developed by Luthorcorp, he experiences his first loss. Stirring up controversy in his attempts to protect life and representing freedom, the lead hero struggles to keep the upperhand against evil.
David Corenswet, from 2024 Twisters, plays the role of Superman / Clark Kent excellently by differentiating the two personas. During his informal interview with coworker and love interest Lois Lane, played by Rachel Brosnahan from the series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Corneswet switches his demeanor depending on who he’s speaking as. During this interview, Brosnahan uses accurate tools and language such as “on record,” which gives insight to the small details that make the film feel all the more real.
Superman’s comically accurate costume causes him to stand out as a focal point; however, even as Clark Kent, he attracts eyes with his tall stature and cinematographic focus on him. Lots of moments stand out just from CGI and editing skills. Buildings such as Superman’s ice Fortress of Solitude look incredibly realistic.
Overall, a majority of views enjoyed the movie, earning $617 million making it the 10th highest grossing film of 2025. Walking out of the theater people feel a sense of compassion and an urge to help others as Superman would do. Viewers cite the quote between Lane and Kent, “You think everyone and everything is beautiful.” “Maybe that’s the real punk rock.” The inspiration the film brought to people to be kinder made it a wonderful experience and I wish I could watch it for the first time all over again.
