Q: How do you manage students who are struggling in your class?
A: I’m always available, but I also want them to come to me for help. I think if you ask any of my students, especially [those in] AP physics, they’ll tell you that I try to be as available as possible to help, but there comes [a] point where you have to come and get the help. How I help students is, I just try to be as available as I can be, and to be able to be there when they need help.
Q: What are some challenges you faced while you were teaching?
A: I guess the biggest thing I don’t really remember a whole lot from like high school or anything, so I wasn’t really a great student in high school. I don’t really remember how a lot of these classes should look. I think a lot of teachers have a perspective on things like, ‘Oh, I remember when I took this class in high school, and this is what it looked like,’ and I don’t really have that for most of the classes that I teach. I think [that’s] the biggest struggle. The biggest challenge has been kind of figuring out where my students are at, what they know, what this class looks like at the high school level. [Also] making sure it’s a good experience, and that it’s doable.
