Q1: What is competitive dance?
A:For the winter season, dance is considered a sport through IHSA. Teams are allowed up to two dances that they can enter into competitions throughout the season that get judged using a rubric created by the IHSA. At the end of January, there is a chance to make it to the state competition.
Q2: How long is the season?
A: The season starts at the end of October, and will go until the last home basketball game of the season, usually in February.
Q3: What is unique to competitive dance?
A:The dances are more intense than what you might see a team perform at halftime for a football game. There are often more technical skills in a competition routine than a halftime routine. The routines are performed on the gym floor, so it is easier to perform more skills like turns, leaps, and jumps on the gym floor compared to a grass/turf field.
Q4: What do you like about competitive dance?
A: My favorite part of the season is going to competitions. I enjoy watching our team perform and showcase their hard work and progress in practice leading up to their performance. I also enjoy competitions because it allows us to travel to different schools to see what routines other schools have created for the season.
Q5: What are some goals you have for this season?
A: Some goals include having strong performances at each competition, improving our scores at each competition, hitting the different skills in our routine with each performance, and to make it to the state competition.
